Brisbane Festival presents

The Rite of Spring / Petrushka

Australian Premiere

Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre (Ireland)

One hundred years after Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring caused a near riot in Paris, Brisbane Festival presents a double bill of Stravinsky's finest works. Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre Artistic Director Michael Keegan-Dolan reimagines his 2009 Olivier-nominated version and brings to life a new interpretation of Petrushka.

Performed by exquisite dancers, both pieces create an intoxicating night of dance theatre that honours the searing modernity of Stravinsky’s music.

The music for the piece will be played by two people on one grand piano in a special arrangement, devised by Stravinsky, which will make for a very powerful evening.

"Michael Keegan-Dolan’s savage and inspired rewrite of Stravinsky is… as exhilarating as it is harrowing…" - Debra Craine, The Times (London)
"(The show) reaches deep into Stravinsky’s music and ferrets around in the entrails to pull out raw, bleeding chunks of movement. An evening of pure theatrical voodoo. Get strong and go." - Neil Norman, Daily Express
